I learned more about real estate development in one day at this seminar than I did during an entire semester-long course in “urban land planning.”
As a real estate development expert, Peter Brown’s approach to the topic was incredibly valuable to urban planners as the structure of instruction made it easy to understand and “get inside the head” of a developer. The content of this one-day seminar is rich, the activities lucid, and the lessons will come in handy for city planners and other local officials.
Professor Brown’s daylong seminar would be great for new city planning commissioners. The kind of concepts covered in his class would go a long way to helping local policy-makers understand the “other side” when contemplating private development proposals. This seminar was useful, practical, and has already helped me to think differently about my work.

Peter was a wealth of knowledge to me while I was Director of Minneapolis CPED. Not only did he deepen my understanding of real estate finance, he provided a strong framework for me to better interact with the many stakeholders involved in the physical development of our City. Peter cares deeply about how to improve the public-private partnerships required to make our cities better and is an expert at guiding good decision in this arena. I would call on him in a heartbeat if I needed wise counsel.
